Rotary Club of Dharamshala, chartered on 1982, as Club Number 15242 is one of the most Elite clubs of District 3070 and has risen to great heights with in the Rotary community with dedicated service to the community and camaraderie amongst its members.
Mark Daniel Maloney, of the Rotary Club of Decatur, Alabama, USA, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International for 2019-20. He will be declared the president-nominee on 1 October if no challenging candidates have been suggested.
“The clubs are where Rotary happens,” says Maloney, an attorney. He aims to support and strengthen clubs at the community level, preserve Rotary’s culture as a service-oriented membership organization, and test new regional approaches for growth.
“With the eradication of polio, recognition for Rotary will be great and the opportunities will be many,” he says. “We have the potential to become the global powerhouse for doing good.”
Maloney is a principal in the law firm of Blackburn, Maloney, and Schuppert LLC, with a focus on taxation, estate planning, and agricultural law. He represents large farming operations in the Southeastern and Midwestern United States, and has chaired the American Bar Association’s Committee on Agriculture in the section of taxation. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Alabama State Bar Association, and the Alabama Law Institute.
He has been active in Decatur’s religious community, chairing his church’s finance council and a local Catholic school board. He has also served as president of the Community Foundation of Greater Decatur, chair of Morgan County Meals on Wheels, and director of the United Way of Morgan County and the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce.
A Rotarian since 1980, Maloney has served as an RI director; Foundation trustee and vice chair; and aide to 2003-04 RI President Jonathan Majiyagbe. He also has participated in the Council on Legislation as chair, vice chair, parliamentarian, and trainer. He was an adviser to the 2004 Osaka Convention Committee and chaired the 2014 Sydney Convention Committee.
Prior to serving as a district governor, Maloney led a Group Study Exchange to Nigeria.

Rtn. Sunil Nagpal was born to a Civil Engineer, Er. Y.P. Nagpal and Mrs. Padma Nagpal on 7th December 1970 at Palampur. He did his schooling form Sainik School Sujanpur Tihra. Then he pursued his Bachelor in Technology in Computer Science from Regional Engineering College, Warangal (Andhra Pradesh) presently named as NIT (National Institute of Technology). Sunil gained experience in the field of Information Technology and has worked with reputed Indian companies like Bennet Coleman, a biggest publishing house in India with leading national newspapers – Times of India and The Economic Times in the Systems & Technology division. In 1997 formed a company, Sai Data Systems Pvt. Ltd. An information technology infrastructure Solutions company in the state of Himachal Pradesh at Palampur and brought information technology to the common man of the area to bridge the digital divide gap. In 1998 opened state of the art computer education training centre, NIIT Palampur Centre (Franchisee of NIIT Ltd. New Delhi). The centre has the distinction of training more than 5000 students and has placed students in leading Indian and multinational companies. Sunil identified a need to help the mankind and joined Rotary Club Palampur (A Rotary International Club) and actively participated in various projects like helping the orphans, senior citizens, mentally challenged children, and curing the curable blinds. He is today associated with all the permanent projects of Rotary Palampur like Basera- A home for Orphans, Scholl for mentally challenged children, Rotary Eye Hospital-Service to the Curable Blinds, Apna Ghar- A home for Senior Citizens, Rotary Physiotherapy Centre and Rotary Mother & Child Hospital. Holger Knaack, a member of the Rotary Club of Herzogtum Lauenburg-Mölln, Germany, has been selected to serve as president of Rotary International in 2020-21.
The Nominating Committee’s decision follows the resignation last month of President-nominee Sushil Gupta due to health reasons. Knaack will officially become president-nominee if no other candidates challenge him by 31 May.
To build a stronger membership, Knaack says Rotary must focus on increasing the number of female members and transitioning Rotaractors into Rotarians.
Knaack believes that the People of Action campaign offers new public awareness possibilities for Rotary. “This campaign conveys our global image while still respecting differences in regions and cultures,” he says.
A Rotary member since 1992, Knaack has served Rotary as treasurer, director, moderator, member and chair of several committees, representative for the Council on Legislation, zone coordinator, training leader, and district governor.
He is an endowment/major gifts adviser and co-chair of the Host Organization Committee for the 2019 Rotary International Convention in Hamburg.
Knaack is the CEO of Knaack KG, a real estate company. He was previously a partner and general manager of Knaack Enterprises, a 125-year-old family business.

Today Summit Adventures is one of the leading Travel Companies in Himachal Pradesh and work with tourists from all over the world. He is a member of Adventure Tour Operators Association of India, one of the most renowned tourism body of India and Chapter Chairman of this association representing Himachal Pradesh. In many ways he has tried to combine his profession with social service and his longing for social service brought him into Rotary in the year 2008. Dr. Satish Sood was born and bred in the hillside city of Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. He is best known for his effort to help others. He is a known philanthropist and compassionate social activist. Imbued with compassion and a spirit of service towards underprivileged section of society, Dr. Sood has been at the forefront in supporting various social upliftment programmes. His parents have had a major impact on his life; his father instilled a strong social conscience, while his mother taught her to be independent minded. After studying in Govt. PG College in Dharamshala and Garden City College in Bangalore, Dr. Satish Sood started his carrier with Tata Consultancy Services at New Delhi. But, he realised that this wasn’t his passion as he aimed to become a Teacher. He did Ph.D. Computer Science from Himachal Pradesh University. Shekhar Mehta President 2021-22 Shekhar Mehta, of the Rotary Club of Calcutta-Mahanagar, West Bengal, India, is the President of Rotary International for 2021-22. Mehta acknowledges that current membership trends are a challenge and says that membership development should be Rotary’s highest priority. He believes that focusing on regional plans, successfully transitioning Rotaractors into Rotary clubs, and increasing diversity and female members could yield a 5 percent net growth in membership each year. “A major brainstorming is needed to find effective solutions suited to different areas of the world,” says Mehta. He adds that regional ethos and culture have to be taken into account to find localized solutions, as “one size does not fit all.” He believes Rotary can extend to new geographical areas and countries. As a strong proponent of Rotary’s strategic plan, Mehta says he will encourage clubs to use action plans and reinforce the core values of Rotary. Mehta says Rotary needs to become more contemporary and adaptable by focusing on partnerships with governments and corporations, expanding partnerships with organizations that specialize in Rotary’s areas of focus, and investing in technology. Mehta, an accountant, is chair of the Skyline Group, a real estate development company he founded. He is also a director of Operation Eyesight Universal (India), a Canada-based organization. Mehta has been actively involved in disaster response and is a trustee of ShelterBox, UK. After the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, he helped build nearly 500 homes for families affected by the disaster. Mehta pioneered a program that has performed more than 1,500 life-changing heart surgeries in South Asia. He is also the architect of the TEACH Program, which promotes literacy throughout India and has reached thousands of schools. A Rotary member since 1984, Mehta has served Rotary as director, member or chair of several committees, zone coordinator, training leader, member of The Rotary Foundation Cadre of Technical Advisers, and district governor. He is also the chair of Rotary Foundation (India). Mehta has received Rotary’s Service Above Self Award and The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Awards. He worked as a Registrar Surgery in Medical College, Amritsar for 3 years with Dr. Balwant Singh Tung. Two persons who have shaped his life have been his father late Bakshi Pran Nath and his teacher Dr. B.S. Tung. He owes a lot to his mother Mrs. Rani Ghai and Mother-in-law Punjabi writer novelist Mrs. Chandan Negi. He was surgical specialist in Civil Hospital, Jalandhar from 1982 to 1985. He was selected by the Govt of Libya to work as a Consultant Surgeon in 2nd March hospital Sebha, Libya. He worked there for 6 years and he was one of the most popular and sought after Surgeons. He was also one of the leaders of the Indian Community. He helped to establish the Indian Community School in Sebha where Mrs. Ghai was a founder teacher. On his return to India, he joined Guru Nanak Mission hospital, Jalandhar where he served the community tirelessly for almost 6 years. Dr. U.S. Ghai was the first Surgeon to start Laparoscopic Surgery in Punjab in the year 1982 when Laproscopic surgery was started for family planning purposes. He is one the senior most working surgeons in Punjab and was one of the first few surgeons to start Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in 1994. He started his own hospital in 1996 as Ghai Hospital, Jalandhar. This hospital is a 50 bedded multiple Superspeciality hospital. He enjoys an excellent reputation as a Surgeon and a good human being. Dr. U.S Ghai has been organizing free medical checkup camps regularly since he joined Rotary in 1996. He has been doing free surgeries for needy patients referred by different Rotarians. He held different positions at district levels and was Chairman in five different District Rotary events for five consecutive years. He received numerous awards & recognitions as a Rotarian. He has attended three Rotary International conventions at Bangkok, Lisbon and Atlanta. He has been regularly contributing towards the Rotary foundation and is a Major Donor. Paul Harris Fellow Rtn. Er. Sangram Guleria, born on 19th May 1952, did schooling from Arya High School Mangwal. Thereafter did Engineering from Naval College of Electrical College Jamnagar in the year 1976. Started Professional Career from College of Engineering Guindy Madras and worked there for two years. In 1979 joined a British shipping company and worked at different capacities and left shipping in 2013. During the long span of time worked as Chief Engineer on board different type of ships including new ship building in Korea and China till 1913. Joined Rotary in 2014. Worked in different capacities in Rotary Club of Dharamshala till date. He is married to Mrs. Bhawna Guleria, blessed with son and daughter. Both are Engineer by profession.

Got diploma in optometry and served in health department in Eye Mobile Unit Dharamshala for 38 years. Served in eye care services in for flung and remote areas by organising free eye camps by health department. Was also made member of district mental health society in the year 1994, and worked a lot for mentally challenged persons. For my best services I was given 2-year reemployment by state Government. Presently working as President Lower Barol Welfare Society since last 2 years. After my retirement started my Optical and eye care center at Barol Dari Near Rainbow School. Jennifer E. Jones, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, has been nominated to become Rotary International’s president for 2022-23, a groundbreaking selection that will make her the first woman to hold that office in the organization’s 115-year history. Jones will officially become president-nominee on 1 October if no other candidates challenge her. Jones says she sees Rotary’s Action Plan as a catalyst for increasing Rotary’s impact. “As we reflect upon our new strategic priorities, we could have never envisioned that our ability to adapt would become our North Star during what is inarguably the most profound time in recent history,” Jones said in her vision statement. “Silver linings rise out of the most challenging circumstances. Using metric-driven goals, I will harness this historic landscape to innovate, educate, and communicate opportunities that reflect today’s reality.” As the first woman to be nominated to be president, Jones understands how important it is to follow through on Rotary’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement. “I believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion … begins at the top and for us to realize growth in female membership and members under the age of forty — these demographics need to see their own reflection in leadership,” Jones said. “I will champion double-digit growth in both categories while never losing sight of our entire family.” Jones is founder and president of Media Street Productions Inc., an award-winning media company in Windsor. She was chair of the board of governors of the University of Windsor and chair of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Dushyant, a graduate from, Govt. Medical College Jammu and Post Graduate from Delhi, is presently working as Medical Director, Maxx Lyfe Hospital, Jammu. He served as the District Rotaract Representative in 2001-02. He joined Rotary club of Jammu Tawi in the year 2005-06 and became President of his club in 2010-11. He joined Eye Mobile Unit of HP Health Department in the year 1980 and served for 38 years. He provided his valuable services in different eye medical camps organised by the department in far flung areas of Himachal. He is a member of Distt. Mental Health Society since 1994.For his brilliant work done to the social cause he was awarded Distt. Award by HP Govt. in the year 2000 and Himachal Kesari Award in the year 2013. His services were also recognised by state Govt. and was given two years’ extension in job. He also worked in WHO sponsored programme for one year. He is associated with many social and spiritual organisations. At present he also President of Lower Barol Residential Welfare Association. He is now running his Optical and Eye Care Centre. He is happily married to Mrs Poonam Sharma. She retired from Govt. Education department as School Lecturer. Couple is blessed with two children; daughter is a doctor and happily married. Fancied listening to music while solving mathematics problems during his childhood and for his immense love for the subject, went to Central Polytechnic Chandigarh for higher studies where he achieved a diploma in Electrical Engineering followed by completing his AMIE course. Under his captaincy, the college football team brought laurels by winning many inter college football tournaments. Keen on serving his home land, he returned to Himachal Pradesh in 1984 and joined the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board as Junior Engineer. He tied the knot to Sunita Thakur in 1996 and was subsequently blessed with 2 children, Dr. Shirin Rana currently pursuing her MD and Shaurya Rana currently studying CSE at IIT Roorkee. Er. Tej Singh always been a keen believer of serving humanity has volunteered by self-numerous times for donating blood during medical emergencies to any one in need and has been awarded by the Red Cross Society for the same. During his service as an electrical engineer he was promoted to the rank of Additional Superintending Engineer and has served the areas of Rampur Bushar, Nurpur, Chowari, Dharamshala, Kangra and Shahpur whole heartedly with the motto of service before self. He retired with great pride and satisfaction from HPSEBL in 2016 and is since then relishing his post job retirement in his village cherishing gardening and farming in the lap of the mighty Dhauladhars. With the belief of always staying socially active and aware and doing something meaningful for the society he served as the nominated Councilor of Municipal Corporation of Dharamshala from May 2018 to April 2021 and is a proud Rotarian since July 2018.
R. Gordon R. McInally is president Rotary International for 2023-24. He was educated at the Royal High School in Edinburgh and at the University of Dundee, where he earned his graduate degree in dental surgery. He operated his own dental practice in Edinburgh until 2016. Gordon was chair of the East of Scotland branch of the British Paedodontic Society and has held various academic positions. He has also served as a presbytery elder, chair of the Queensferry parish congregational board, and commissioner to the general assembly of the Church of Scotland. Gordon joined Rotary in 1984 at age 26. A member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, he has served as president and vice president of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI). He has also served RI as a director and on several committees, including as an adviser to the 2022 Houston Convention Committee and chair of the Operations Review Committee. Gordon says he looks forward to working with members to build new Rotary clubs and groups. My vision is that Rotary should exist everywhere in a style to suit everyone who has the desire to be part of us and to help us do good in the world, he says. Gordon is a patron of the UK-based nonprofit Hope and Homes for Children and led a partnership between that organization and RIBI to support children in Rwanda who had been orphaned in the genocide there. He is a patron of Trade-Aid, an initiative of the Rotary Club of Grantham Kesteven, Lincolnshire, England, that provides sustainable humanitarian aid to individuals, families, and businesses in the developing world. He is also an ambassador for Bipolar UK, a national mental health organization. In his free time, Gordon enjoys rugby, good food and wine, and stick dressing, the traditional Scottish craft of making walking sticks. Gordon describes The Rotary Foundation as the fuel that provides the energy to do Rotary service. He and his spouse, Heather, also a Rotarian, are Paul Harris Fellows, Major Donors, and Benefactors of The Rotary Foundation. They are also members of the Bequest Society. Gordon wishes to dedicate his presidency to making the world a better place for his granddaughters, Ivy and Florence, to live and thrive.
Rotarian Vipan Bhasin is the second generation Rotarian. His association with Rotary movement dates back to 1975 as Charter Member of Rotaract Club Amritsar South. He completed 10 years of Rotaract during which he served as Club President. He was a RYLA AWARDEE in the year 1980, in the then combined Rotary District 309. He joined his Parent Rotary Club, Amritsar South in the year 1990 and served as its President in the year 2000-2001. During his interlude, he visited Australia in the year 1987 as a GSE Team Member. In Rotary, he served at important posts in the District and addressed various orientation meets in the District. He has acquired a sufficient exposure of Rotary by attending International Conventions and Presidential Regional Conferences. A second generation Rotarian, his upbringing in an environment charged with Rotary values has shaped him as a true Rotarian. Recognized at various levels, he rose to the highest office of District Governor in the year 2021 by becoming District Governor Nominee Designate. He will be serving the District as District Governor in the year 2023-24. Rotarian Vipan Bhasin plans for his District focus to be on the energetic promotion of Ideals of Rotary, to project Rotary and to increase the understanding of Rotary’s work in the community. Government of India has appointed him as Special Public Prosecutor for conducting prosecution under the Income Tax Act for Ludhiana. He has been a visiting faculty in Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Patiala. Besides, he has delivered many extension lectures on various subjects of Law. Consequent upon the formation of BSNL, he opted for BSNL and also worked in BSNL office, Dharamshala and retired from there on 31-01-2021. He also participated in the trade union activities of telecommunication employees and worked as Divisional Secretary, assistant circle secretary. Rotarian Hari singh is not only associated with rotary but also with many professional ans social organisation.very soft spoken and always ready to help the weaker sections. His wife Smt. Tripta Dogra has recently retired as Superintendent from the District Courts, Dharamshala (H.P.) His son Avinash Dogra is an engineer pass out from NIT Hamirpur (H.P.) and is working as manager in Hindustan Petroleum. His daughter is a practicing lawyer at Chandigarh.
Stephanie A. Urchick has been an RI director and Rotary Foundation trustee and has served Rotary in numerous capacities, including as training leader, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, and RI president’s representative. In addition, Urchick was a representative and member-at-large at three sessions of the Council on Legislation. Urchick has also served as chair of the Strategic Planning Committee and The Rotary Foundation’s Centennial Celebration Committee, as well as a member of various Rotary committees, including the Election Review Committee and Operational Review Committee. A Rotary member since 1991, Urchick has participated in a variety of international service projects, including National Immunization Days in India and Nigeria. In Vietnam, she worked with clubs to help build a primary school and travelled to the Dominican Republic to install water filters. A student of several Slavic languages, she has mentored new Rotary members in Ukraine and coordinated a Rotary Foundation grant for mammography equipment and a biopsy unit for a hospital in Poland. In its commemorative book, the Rotary Club of Krakow, Poland, noted Urchick as a key figure for helping the rebirth of Rotary in post-Communist Poland. Urchick has also helped to pair clubs and districts in the U.S. with Rotary clubs in Albania, Kosovo, and Ukraine for humanitarian and educational services. Urchick’s professional background is in the higher education, consulting, and entertainment industries. She received her doctorate degree in Leadership Studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and has been recognized by The Rotary Foundation and numerous community and international organizations. Urchick asks members to champion Rotary’s Action Plan so they can improve their clubs and keep Rotary strong, find a balance between continuity and change, and work for peace. She also emphasizes the continuing importance of the effort to eradicate polio. She urges members to join or initiate PolioPlus Societies in their districts and do all they can to help end the disease.

In the year 2018, He joined as Principal of the newly opened college at Jawali Kangra and made a lot of developments including the organization of a National Level Conference, and a National Webinar on the New Education Policy in which about 1500 participants joined from the entire country. In the year 2021, he joined Govt College Takipur another new college where he started BSc Classes. His passion towards research and the organization of Conferences was also confirmed when he organized the 15th Conference in the month of his retirement from Govt service in April 2022. He has been honoured with the Himachal Kesri Award, Best Citizen Award, Best Teacher Award and, Shiksha Ratan Puruskar for his exemplary contribution to the field of Higher Education and by Rotary International Distt. 3070 and other leading organisations of the country for his contribution to the field of Literacy.
